20 Jul 2008 Mongol Rally 2008
Yesterday we went and wished for the best to these crazy teams of travelers who are now on their way to Ulan-Bator, in what has now begun a cult among adventure travelers, the Mongol Rally. The point is to try and reach Ulan-Bator with cars that have difficulties reachin the grocery store, with engines smaller than 1000cc, and complete the route in 3 to 4 weeks. Teams can choose whatever way they prefer to reach the capital of Mongolia, and will try and raise money for charities, a noble aim that makes the trip somewhat even more adventurous. The trip is most of the times one-way for the cars, while travelers will taste the comforts of modernity in airplanes heading back to their starting points, London, Milan and Madrid.
Among the teams that left from Milan, we met one of Giorgio’s old schoolmates that was actually part of one of the teams, “Lsbarrateam“. We wish them the best of luck, and invite everybody who want to follow their adventure to log on Geomat’s tracking service to see how well they’re doing!
Both me and Giorgio shot some pictures of the start of the event in Milan: you can take a look on Flickr, here and here.
